The ara Bennett is a handsome shoe, well-made, with an interesting combination of materials. It has an asymmetrical vamp following the curve of the different materials which results in the inside of the vamp higher than the outside. It has a quite comfortable insole, although I need more arch and metatarsal support than it provides. The size was accurate as to length and the width was fine throughout the shoe, except for the heel which was quite wide. The slippage was extreme. I usually can wear a medium with no problems. A smaller size or width probably would not solve the problem for me. The insole is glued (but probably can be carefully removed), but I did not want to remove the insole (which means I own the shoe), to find out if my Aetrex insoles would help. It is possible that the addition of a heel pad or one at the vamp might make a difference, but I did not test that out. The stitching in the toe box may bother some. If the heel did not slip so much, I would rate the Bennett higher.
