The Chaco Velleda features suede uppers with fabric linings in an oxford style sneaker/shoe. They are lightweight, have very good arch support, 2 pair of laces and are very comfortable when worn barefoot or with lightweight socks. The soles are textured (lines across) with decent enough grip for normal wear. They are 'fair weather' shoes.

Chaco is best known for their sport sandals with that wonderful arch support built in and I've read several reviews from people with problem feet/arches that swear by their sandals. I have a pair of the sandals but no painful foot problems so I can't vouch for that aspect, however, I can compare the sandals to these shoes fit/feel-wise. The Velleda's don't feel exactly like the sandals so if you already wear Chaco sandals and you're looking for the firmer, more aggressive arch support that you're accustomed to, this style may not be your best choice in their shoe line.

That being said, the arch support in these shoes is very good, extremely comfortable and comes from the removable insole - it is a fabric covered soft but dense rubbery material. Since the arch support is not built into the footbed itself like the sandals are, it is not as aggressive. If you remove the insoles, you remove the arch support. I mention this because as far as fit goes, these shoes fit true to size with the insoles in IF you wear them barefoot. They are certainly comfortable enough to wear that way since the interior and insoles are soft fabric lined. If you choose to wear them with medium - heavy weight socks, you might find the sizing to be a bit too small. Your other alternative if you need to wear thicker socks would be to take the insoles out but then you'd lose any arch support these shoes would have.

I am a size 7 and ordered these in size 7. Since I need to wear my shoes with socks but wanted the arch support, I bought a pair of very thin cotton no-show socks to wear with them. This makes the fit comfortable and only slightly more snug (width-wise), though the suede has stretched a bit in just a few voyages and they're becoming even more comfortable. I gave these 4/5 stars because I think most people (myself included) would expect to wear shoes of this type with socks and depending on the type of socks you wear, this could cause sizing issues.
