I have worn New Balance for over 10 years on the tennis courts and my very best love was the 1200 which is now discontinued, but they have done something to the toe box recently in these that really mucks up the fit. (I do wear and always have worn orthotics in the heel/arch area.) These rubbed the pad off my big toes during a 3 hour singles match. I have never had that experience with any shoe before. They are cut pretty sharply at the toe and leave the toe box narrow and one side the toe box actually seemed to want to curl up just a bit when wearing it. I wore these shoes just a few times before I went hunting again and am still hunting. My feet are not wide (B), but I like a little breathing room in the toe box. The new New Balance 1187 which I am wearing now is ok, but snug in the toe box as well, without a lot of breathing room. (And if I wanted it to fit like Ascic, which the 1187's kind of do, I would have bought an Ascic, which I've tried and are typically too narrow with the orthotics.) I don't know why NB wants to make a mess of what was a good thing. I want my 1200's back....they had great fit, great support and wonderful, wonderful forefoot and heel cushioning. Unfortunately, I am now hunting other brands of tennis shoes for the first time in 10 years. They are losing a very loyal customer.
